The Ghostwritten Proposal

How a solo research consultant stopped her RFP ideas from walking away without her.

This story sits inside our mission to make digital provenance effortless, universal, and trustworthy for the people and systems who depend on it. See Mission & Vision

Problem … The invisible leak in the RFP process

Ayodele spends weeks crafting detailed, original proposals. She submits them via portals or email… then hears "we went in a different direction." Months later, she sees a winning concept or program that looks suspiciously like hers.

She has:

  • No neutral timestamp beyond email
  • No formal proof-of-origin manifest
  • No simple way to show "this sequence of ideas was mine, on this date."

Key points:

  • RFPs often disallow sharing proposals… but enforcement is murky.
  • Good ideas can be "absorbed" into internal strategy decks.
  • Solo consultants lose leverage because they can't turn frustration into evidence.

Solution … Sovereign turns each proposal into a registered artifact

Before submitting, Ayodele uploads her proposal PDF + any appendices to Sovereign. Sovereign hashes each file, generates a time-stamped manifest, anchors the manifest (e.g. OpenTimestamps / IPFS), and stores a sealed copy in her chosen zone/jurisdiction.

The manifest includes:

  • Her authorship and firm identity
  • License terms (e.g. non-transferable, no reuse without consent)
  • AI-visibility fields (declaring human-created or AI-assisted)
  • Jurisdiction & sovereign zone

It takes her less than a minute per proposal… the provenance work runs in the background.

Flow … What happens when an idea appears without the author

Step 1: Submission

RFP goes out, Ayodele submits her proposal. She includes a small note in the footer: "Authorship and provenance registered via SOVEREIGN\\PROVENANCE on [date]."

Step 2: Discovery

Months later, a similar program or strategy appears from the same sponsor.

Step 3: Verification

She opens Sovereign, pulls up the original proposal artifact, and exports a proof-of-origin bundle: manifest with timestamps, hash of the original PDF, external anchors (OTS/IPFS IDs), license snapshot at time of submission.

Step 4: Comparison

She compares the new public material to her proposal, adding a similarity summary and a clear timeline: submission date vs announcement date.

Step 5: Action

With that bundle, she can open a professional conversation about licensing, or escalate if needed with clear, structured evidence.

Outcomes … From "that feels unfair" to "here's the record"

  • She has a clear, non-emotional way to say: "Here's when I shared this idea; here's how you're using it."
  • She can negotiate: licensing, advisory work, or future engagements
  • Even if she doesn't escalate: She knows she's not helpless… there's a ledger.
  • Reputation angle: She positions her practice as "provenance-backed research and strategy."

"I used to feel like my best work disappeared into portals. Now, every proposal lives in a provenance ledger I control."

Product tie-in … Why this is uniquely a Sovereign use case

Focus on high-value documents, not just code. Emphasis on sealed archives, immutable manifests, easy export of evidence bundles, sovereign zones for jurisdiction (e.g. EU-based consultant vs US-based funder).

Sovereign doesn't change how you write. It changes what your writing becomes: not just a PDF in your Sent folder, but a registered artifact that can stand up under scrutiny.

Register your next proposal before you send it.

If your ideas are your business, Sovereign makes sure they leave a trail.

Why this matters now

Cases like this are emerging because AI, synthetic media, and global information flows have made provenance a necessity rather than a luxury. When it's no longer obvious who made what, when, or why, stories like this become the norm.

The Genesis Moment explains the broader context for this kind of provenance work. Read Genesis.

Work like this, when implemented on the SOVEREIGN\PROVENANCE platform, is governed by The Covenant of Restraint, our ethical framework for how we build and deploy provenance systems.

Governed by The Covenant of Restraint, aligned with our Mission & Vision, and grounded in the Genesis Moment.
